Rent (1996 Original Broadway Cast)-the OBC recording.  It's absolutely amazing.
The Best of Rent: Highlights From the Original Cast Album-basically what the title says.  I guess this is a good introduction, but I'd recommend getting the complete CD above.
The Rent Book-an amazing book that includes behind the scenes notes and the liberetto.  VERY well worth your money.
